The American Medical Association published a new resource to help physicians and their patients adopt digital health solutions.

The Digital Health Implementation Playbook lays out 12 key steps, best practices and other resources to facilitate the adoption and scaling of digital health solutions. The first six steps apply to implementations for any digital health solution, while the final six steps focus on unique considerations for specific digital health technologies.

For example, the guide offers insights into how healthcare organizations can implement remote patient monitoring with the support of devices, trackers and sensors to capture and record patient-generated health data.

“Implementing digital health technology has been a challenge for those without a clear course to success,” AMA Chair-elect Jesse Ehrenfeld, MD, said in a news release. “The AMA is committed to making technology an asset, not a burden, and the playbook provides the medical community with widespread access to a proven path for implementing digitally enabled health and care.”

More than 80 physicians, care team members, healthcare administrators, patients and digital health experts contributed to the playbook, which AMA will continue to update with new information as needed.
