Most provider organizations can integrate data from external hospitals into their EHR, according to the 2018 HealthCare’s Most Wired survey, which the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives released Oct. 31.
This marks the first year CHIME has administered the Most Wired survey, which it acquired from the American Hospital Association in July 2017. For the survey, CHIME polled leaders from more than 600 providers about IT infrastructure, including their interoperability, information security, population health management and patient engagement capabilities.
Here are six external entities providers say their EHRs are consuming data from:
1. External hospital systems: 85 percent
2. External physician practices: 82 percent
3. Retail pharmacies: 76 percent
4. Government agencies: 70 percent
5. Home health agencies: 60 percent
5. Skilled nursing facilities and chronic care facilities: 60 percent
Here are 12 in-hospital devices providers say deliver data directly to their EHRs:
1. Blood glucose: 83 percent
2. Bedside blood pressure: 80 percent
3. Bedside pulse oximetry: 79 percent
4. Electrocardiogram: 77 percent
5. Bedside lab tests: 72 percent
6. Fetal monitor data: 71 percent
7. Bedside temperature: 65 percent
8. Cardiovascular catheter output: 51 percent
9. Ventilator data: 47 percent
10. Intracranial monitor data: 39 percent
11. Intravenous pump data: 25 percent
12. In-bed scale data: 10 percent
