SUMMARY:Duke Fuqua MBA Healthcare Conference 2019 - “Bending the Cost Curve in Health Care”
DESCRIPTION:Across the U.S.\, organizations\, and communities are grappling with increases in the cost of health care. Employers are concerned about their employees’ health care costs. Health care providers are experimenting with new modes of care delivery that could help drive down cost. Some patients are rationing their medication and delaying treatment to reduce their out-of-pocket spending. Inequities in access to primary care increase the incidences of catastrophic care\, especially among low-income communities. Compared to other developed economies\, the U.S. leads in health care spending but falls squarely in the middle of health care outcomes. At the same time\, emerging economies\, faced with a population boom and a rising middle class\, are urgently investing in modern health care systems. \nJoin us at the 2019 Health Care Conference\, where we will discuss how various entities are tackling the rise in health care costs. We will have keynote speakers\, panels\, and ample networking opportunities during breakfast\, lunch\, and a closing reception. Confirmed participants come from a variety of health care entities\, including Echo Health Ventures\, DaVita\, IBM\, Oak Street Health and The Gates Foundation. \nVisit our website: www.fuquahealthcareconference.com to register and for more information on the day’s agenda!

SUMMARY:NC Biotech's 35th Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:In the early 1980s\, Genentech produced the first biotech drug – insulin. North Carolina’s leaders took note\, and planted the seeds to grow a life science sector in North Carolina. In 1984\, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center formed as a private\, nonprofit company – the first state-funded effort to grow a state’s life science strengths. \nThirty-five years later\, we have a lot to celebrate. \nA handful of companies has grown to more than 700. Major names in agriculture\, pharmaceuticals and contract research have grown – and changed names – and\, along with cutting-edge startup companies\, now employ more than 64\,500 of us. The far-reaching ripple effects of this sector support 240\,000 jobs for North Carolinians. \nWe have a lot planned this year – an anniversary celebration in October\, some videos\, and your stories – to celebrate a significant milestone and North Carolina’s global life science leadership.
